Jerry D. Haxton, 67 of Mason City died Thursday, June 5, 2003 at his home. A funeral mass will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday, June 9, 2003 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 North Adams, with Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation for Jerry will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Jerry was born December 27, 1935 the son of Clarence and Anna (Opsahl) Haxton in Iowa City. He worked for Armour?s for 29 years and also served in the Iowa Army National Guard for 22 years. Jerry was united in marriage to Aivetta Neve on July 16, 1955 in Mason City. Jerry was a long time resident of Mason City and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He had a love for the outdoors spending much of his time fishing and hunting, but always making time for his grandchildren. Jerry was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs Fan. He enjoyed sharing his love for baseball by coaching Little League, never missing a game. Those left to cherish his memory are: Wife: Aivetta Haxton of Mason City Sons:Mark Haxton and wife Suzanne of Mason City Tim Haxton of Mason City Terry Haxton and wife June of Mason City Daughter:Lori Wise and husband Jason of Mason City Mother:Mrs. Anna Opsahl of Mason City Grandchildren:Shannon Solberg, Erin and Kaitlyn Haxton, Nick, Dan, Jennifer and Derek Haxton, Stephanie, Jeff, Michael, Jacie Wise Great Grandsons:Stevonte Mosley and Tyler Briggs Sister:Sharon Hopkins of Centerville, Iowa And Several Nieces and Nephews He was preceded in death by: his father, Clarence Haxton; sons, Jeffery and Michael Haxton; sister Virginia Ashburn; and brother, Leon Haxton.
