Jean E. Curran, 80, of Mason City, died Monday, May 4, 2009, at the Kavanaugh Hospice House in Des Moines, Iowa. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 8, 2009 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Glen Bandel officiating. Inurnment will be held in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery Columbarium. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Hospice of North Iowa. \r\n
Jean was born on April 22, 1929 in Rochester, MN, the daughter of John and Cora (Smith) Scherer. She attended school in Eyota, MN and graduated in 1947, she also attended Winona State University. She was married to Bartley Bart W. Curran on September 2, 1950 in Eyota, MN. They lived in Eyota, MN until moving to Mason City in 1954. Jean enjoyed being a wife and a mother and raising her family. She loved needlework, knitting, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities. Jean and her husband loved to travel and visited many places through the years. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.\r\n
She is survived by her children, Becky Boyd and husband Mark of Albert Lea, MN, Betty Havener and husband Denny of Grapevine, TX, Bonny Carney and husband Chuck of West Des Moines, IA, Brad Curran and wife In Sun of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Kerry Boyd and wife Allison, Kevin Boyd, Kelsey Boyd, Trisha Gleinser and husband Jonathan, Kami Havener, Shannon Dose and husband Tyler, Ryan Carney, Caitlin Carney, Sarah Curran, Joshua Curran, Daniel Curran and Luke Curran; great-grandchild, Connor Boyd; several brother and sister-in-laws and nieces and nephews.\r\n
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bart Curran in 1996; and sister, Alice Heaton.
