Janice Jan L. Walter

Janice L. Walter, 79, of 934 13th Street SE, passed peacefully into the hands of our Lord Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Memorial Services will be held 10:30 AM Friday (January 12, 2007) at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 South Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. Steve Hansen officiating. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be at Elmwood ? St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lime Creek Nature Center ? Cerro Gordo County Conservation Board and Wesley United Methodist Church. Janice was born June 20, 1927 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Norman and Anna (Cole) Slothower. She was a graduate of Sioux City Central High School in 1945 and then attended the University of South Dakota where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Bacteriology. On August 16, 1946 she married James B. Walter in Sioux City, Iowa. They moved to Mason City in 1968, having previously lived in Sioux City for many years. Janice was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, North Iowa Nature Club, Iowa Ornithologist Union, Wesley Women?s Church Circle and Hospice support groups. Jan?s passion was bird watching and all aspects of nature conservation, but especially natural prairies and wetlands. She was a volunteer for numerous organizations including the Lime Creek Nature Center. She also enjoyed theatre, concerts, needlework, gardening and travel. She is survived by her children, Norma Morrison and husband Bob of Muscatine, Iowa, Nancy Jaspersen of Mason City; 6 grandchildren, Rob, Tom, and Jim Morrison, Misty Akers and husband Chris, Randy and Scott Jaspersen; 4 great-grandchildren, Joel and Karlee Akers, Ty Jaspersen and Morgan Jaspersen; brother, Addison Slothower and wife Kay of Altamonte Springs, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Craig Walter; son-in-law, Richard Jaspersen; two brothers, Norman and Robert Slothower.
