NORA SPRINGS Janet M. Deets, 94, of Mason City, died Sunday, April 3, 2011, at the Nora Springs Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at the First Christian Church, 102 N. Hawkeye Avenue, Nora Springs, with Rev. Glen Bandel officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the church service. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Janet Deets memorial fund in care of the family. Janet was born April 23, 1916, in Rockwell, IA, the daughter of Henry C. and Margaret A. (Thomas) Arndt. She attended school in Rockwell. On February 2, 1935, Janet married Wilbur Deets in Rockwell. In 1957, they moved to Mason City. In addition to being a homemaker, Janet worked at the Good Shepherd Health Center for 9 years and Mode O Day for 2 years. She was a friend of the First Christian Church in Nora Springs, She was a member of RSVP for 24 years, the Moose Lodge and a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. For the last 10 years, she enjoyed making Christmas Tree Ornaments for the grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, dancing, and volunteering. Janet is survived by her children: Merlin Deets and wife Dixie of Mason City, IA, Marlin Deets and wife Susan of Redfield, IA, Margilee Beattie and husband Don of Nora Springs, Maurice Deets and wife Denice of Colton, OR, Mary Ann Cullen and husband Roger of Warsaw, MO; her siblings: Mervyle Carey, Lorna Suby, and Lois Knutson, all of Mason City; 22 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren; 28 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Wilbur Deets in 1979; 1 daughter: Marilyn Crum and husband Dean; 4 brothers: Harold, Henry, Merlin, and Lyle; 2 sister: Jennie Wagner and Merlene Reed; one grandson: Blaine Cullen.
