James S. Ludeman, 79, of 1000 N. Eisenhower Avenue, died Wednesday (December 10, 2003) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 1st Street NE, with Rev. Samuel Hamiton-Poore officiating. There will be no visitation. Private family inurnment services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to Lime Creek Nature Center, Hospice of North Iowa, First Congregational United Church of Christ or donor?s choice. James was born October 15, 1924 in Mason City the son of George and Avis (Pedelty) Ludeman. He graduated from Mason City High School and attended Mason City Junior College and Hamilton School of Business. James enlisted in the US Army in 1943 serving in England, France, Belgium, Luxemburg and Germany where he fought in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe battles and campaigns. He received a Purple Heart and was honorably discharged in 1946. James returned home and married Carole F. Hutchens April 13, 1947 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He worked as an abstract and real estate broker before he began farming. He farmed for 47 years, retiring in 1978. James was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Farm Bureau, North Iowa Beef Producers, Iowa Woolgrowers Association, 4-H Leaders, North Iowa Rod & Gun Club, Lime Creek Nature Center and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Carole E. Ludeman of Mason City; daughters, Candice Marshall and husband Pat of Clear Lake, Pamela Downing and husband Mike of White Bear Lake, MN, Kristine Gatewood and husband Steve of Brownsville, TX, Joy Under Baggage of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren, Sarah, Amy, Richard, Katie, John, Dustin, Jacob and Daniel; great grandchildren, Mia and Kacie; sister, Georgia Ludeman of Mason City. James was preceded in death by his parents.
