Ila M. Ebbers

Ila M. Ebbers, 88, of 321 4th St. NE, died Monday (September 15, 2003) at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday at the First Baptist Church, 125 East State Street, with Rev. Ron Stein officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, and continue at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church. Ila was born July 14, 1915 in Mower County Minnesota the daughter of Lloyd and Matilda (Diederich) Lonergan. As a small child she moved to Osage and Mitchell County where she attended Mitchell County Schools. Later, the family moved to Mason City where she was employed as a homemaker helper for several years. On December 24, 1940 she married Chester Ebbers at the First Baptist Church in Mason City. They made their first home on a farm in the Sheffield area, later moving back to Mason City where they resided most of their lives. In later years, Ila was employed as a cook at Garfield School in the Mason City School System. Ila was an active member of the First Baptist Church and Gildner Circle for many years. Ila and Chester enjoyed dancing and playing cards. She is survived by her daughter; Sharon Vana and husband Rex of Cedar Rapids, grandchildren; Marcy of Chicago, IL, and Justin of Cedar Rapids, sisters; Dora Weiland and Bertha Flatness of Mason City, brothers; Charles Lonergan of Hayward, CA, Neil Lonergan of Amery, WI, and Mahlon Lonergan and wife Viola of Rose Creek, MN, many nieces and nephews.
