Hugh O. Roberts, 90, of 1000 N. Eisenhower Avenue, died Tuesday, September 13, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or the Humane Society of North Iowa. Hugh was born August 16, 1915 in Valley Junction, Iowa the son of J.E. and Faye (Osborn) Roberts. He graduated from Valley Junction High School then Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Hugh served in the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant in the tank division during WW II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Following his discharge, Hugh lived and coached in Buffalo Center, Iowa and Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Hugh married Helen Levsen May 5, 1943 in Wyoming, Iowa. They moved to Mason City in 1955 where Hugh worked in the Insurance business for many years. He was a member of the Million Dollar Roundtable in the Insurance industry. He retired in 1980. Hugh was a member of the Masonic Lodge, past president of noon Lions, past president of the Board of Directors at North Iowa Medical Center and past president of the Life Underwriters in Des Moines and Mason City. Hugh served from 1966-1972 on the Mason City Park Commission and was a former member of the American Legion. Hugh is survived by his wife, Helen L. Roberts of Mason City; daughter, Kristin Jones and husband Arthur of Denver, Colorado; son, Paul Roberts and wife Vicki of Eagan, Minnesota; grandchildren, Evan Abbott, Logan Abbott, Brian Roberts and Katie Roberts; brother, John Roberts and wife Janet of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; sister, Naomi Engler of Seattle, Washington; Hugh?s border collie, Maggie. Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jack in 1963; brother, Dean Roberts.
