Henry 'Hank' E. Motter Jr.

Henry Hank E. Motter Jr., 79, of Mason City, died Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 South Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Steve Hansen officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday (October 29, 2010) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Hank Motter Memorial Fund in care of the family. Hank was born July 4, 1931 in Carroll, IA, the son of Henry E. and Phyllis L. (Short) Motter. His family moved to Mason City in 1935. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1950 and attended Mason City Jr. College. Hank served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 1955, during the Korean Conflict. On January 23, 1954, he married Margaret L. Thomas in Mason City. Over the years, Hank worked at Northwestern Bell for 21 years, auctioneering, and Mason City Community Schools as a bus driver and paint crew supervisor for 16 years before retiring in 1993. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, American Legion, Harding Masonic Lodge, and Pioneers Telephone. Hank enjoyed his train and Civil War memorabilia collection. He also enjoyed photography and wildlife. Hank was an avid camper. Hank is survived by his wife of 56 years: Margaret L. Motter of Mason City; one daughter: Margene Sailsbury and husband Eric of Ames, IA; one son: Henry E. Geno Motter III and wife Carrie of Urbandale, IA; five grandchildren: Tyler, Ashley, Shaylen and Scott Motter, and Roman Sailsbury; two brothers: Jack E. Motter and Noel J. Motter. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Nile E. Motter; and one sister: Dana Motter.

Memorials may be directed to the Hank Motter Memorial Fund in care of the family
