MASON CITY Helen L. Lee, age 82, of Mason City, died Friday, February 19, 2010, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday (February 23, 2010) at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 South Pennsylvania Ave. with the Rev. Steve Hansen of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be held in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 PM Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Mason City.
Memorials may be directed to the Helen L. Lee memorial fund, in care of the family.
Helen was born and raised on a farm in Webster City, Iowa on February 15, 1928 to James and Hulda (Hanken) Garth. She graduated from Swaledale High School in 1945. She then worked as a telephone operator and a beauty operator. She also did daycare in her home for many, many children over the years and was also a generous foster parent to many children. She and Robert C. Lee were married in 1950 and they had seven children, they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2000.
Helen was the best wife and mother that anyone could ask for. She always put everyone above herself. She enjoyed being with her family and grandchildren, gardening, sewing, baking, and more recently watching her favorite videos of Danny ODonnell and Dirty Dancing. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Helen is survived by her husband, Robert Lee of Mason City; children, Janice (Lee) Wolters and her husband Terry of Mason City, Nancy (Lee) Wilder and her husband John of Mason City, Mary (Lee) Anderson and her husband Michael of Clear Lake, Jon Lee and wife Stacy of Mason City, Cindy Sue Lee of Mason City and also her brother Frank Garth and wife Jan of Englewood, FL; she is also survived by seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her wonderful parents, James and Hulda Garth; two children, Cathy and Joni, brother, Jerrold Garth and sister, Joan (Garth) Johnson.
