Helen F. Kohler, 91, of Mason City, died Monday, October 19, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM on Friday, October 23, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. Kevin Jones officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at the Kensett Cemetery in Kensett, IA. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 22, 2015, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue one hour prior to the church service. Memorials may be directed to the Helen Kohler memorial fund in care of the family or Trinity Lutheran Church (Seminary Trust).

Helen was born September 16, 1924, in Kensett, the daughter of Bert and Gertrude (Nelson) Johnson. She graduated from Kensett High School in 1942, and continued her education at Waldorf College for 1 year. In 1946, Helen completed nurses training at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, IA. She worked in Des Moines for 3 years before moving to Mason City in 1950. On May 27, 1951, Helen married Armin P. Kohler at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett. Helen worked as a RN at Park Hospital for many years before retiring in 1990. In retirement she continued her nursing practice at Americana Health Care Center and Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center. Helen was a member of the Iowa Nurses Association and Trinity Lutheran Church where she enjoyed being active. She also enjoyed Bible study, fishing, camping and sewing.

Helen is survived by 4 children: Elaine Schultz and husband Byron of Forest City, Barbara German and husband David of Waubay, South Dakota, Paul Kohler of Fort Worth, Texas, and Margaret Reinholz and husband Eric of Omaha, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren: Ainslie Schultz, Rob Schultz, Amanda Schultz, Jennifer German, Jonathan German, Christopher German, Blake Kohler, Maria Dickerson, Jason Chevalier and Daniel Chevalier; and 17 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2006; 1 sister: Mildred Davids and a brother in infancy.
