Helen C. (Beyer) Christiansen

Helen C. (Beyer) Christiansen, 92, of Mason City, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, May 15, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church WAYside Chapel with the Rev. Jim Stiles officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday in the WAYside chapel at the church. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church or Hospice of North Iowa.
Helen was born on November 11, 1916 on a farm west of Manly, the daughter of Henry J. and Maude (Spickerman) Beyer. She attended rural school and graduated from Manly High School in 1935. She worked as a P.B.X. operator at Mercy Hospital, and also worked at Standard Oil Co. She was married to Werner (Jim) Christiansen in Mason City and they were married until his death in 1980. Helen was the cook at the Orphanage at the IOOF home and when the Orphanage closed, she continued to cook for the residents of the home for several years. She also cooked for the residents of Heritage Care Center. Helen enjoyed crossword puzzles, scrabble, solitaire, cooking and especially tending to her garden. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her nieces, Ann Woods of Colfax, WI, Sherry Kinney and husband John of Mason City, Jean Carmen of Nevada, IA; nephews, Ronald Beyer of Fertile, IA, David Woods and wife Eileen of Victor, NY, Allen Beyer and wife Karen of Rochester, MN; Raymond Beyer and wife Lois of Belmond, IA; great nieces and nephews and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four sisters; and five brothers.
