Hazel Ellen (Kimm) Sanborn, 85, formerly of 2060 South Kentucky Ave., Mason City, Iowa died Monday, June 19, 2006 at Heritage Care Center, Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday June 23, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 North Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, Iowa with Rev. Kathy Graves officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Family will greet relatives and friends at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania in Mason City from 5-7 p.m. Thursday evening, June 22nd and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be directed to Opportunity Village in Clear Lake, Iowa, KCMR radio station or Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City. Hazel Ellen Kimm was born August 11, 1920, at the farm home of her parents near Norway, Iowa. She was the daughter of Jacob and Pearl (Primrose) Kimm. In 1922 the family moved to a farm east of Northwood, Iowa. They later moved into Northwood, where she attended school and graduated from Northwood High School in 1938. Hazel attended Hamilton College and graduated from executive secretarial and accounting in 1939. Following graduation, Hazel was employed as a secretary at Hamilton Business College until she accepted a position as a secretary in a branch office of the war dept. in 1940. She was later employed at Good Shepherd Health Facility as an executive assistant. In 1941 she returned home to Northwood to be united in marriage to Keith P. Sanborn. They were married on October 13, by Pastor Arthur J. Tolo at Northwood Lutheran Church. To this union four children were born. Hazel was a Hospice volunteer for many years and also volunteered at KCMR radio station. Hazel enjoyed antiquing, collecting angels and pink depression glass, baking cookies for her family, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She and Keith were avid campers and were members of the North Iowa Chapter WBCCI. In their retirement years they enjoyed wintering in Harlingen, Texas. Hazel was also an active member of Lydia Circle, and Trinity Lutheran Church Women. Survivors include one sister, Betty Hanson of Northwood, children Sally M. Johnston, Mason City, Cynthia K. Mogk, Mason City, Kim P. Sanborn and wife Linda of Stacy, Minn. and Rosalie A. Erickson and husband Jerry of rural St. Ansgar, nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Neal, twin sisters Nadine and Maxine in infancy, three granddaughters, Katherine Erickson, Jennifer Mogk, Heather Sanborn, and husband Keith P. Sanborn in 2001.
