Harold V. Schadt

Harold V. Schadt, 93, of Mason City, IA, died Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 16, 2017, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Dr. Michael Last of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Harold Schadt memorial fund in care of the family.

Harold was born March 7, 1923, in Mason City, the son of George and Anna (Maull) Schadt. He attended Mason City Schools. In 1943, Harold served in the U.S. Army during WWII until his honorable discharge in 1945. Harold was united in marriage to Sarah Mae Burns on June 16, 1951, in Mason City. Over the years, he worked for Mason City Tent and Awning and Armour Meat Packing Plant as a machine operator for 32 years until his retirement. Harold enjoyed fishing, gardening, flowers, woodworking, creating lawn ornaments and staying busy. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the VFW.

Harold is survived by his son: Valory Schadt and wife Bernita of Sheffield, IA; step daughter: Elodia Marie Sullivan of Mason City; 9 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren & great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1997; and sister: Marie VerBrugge.
