Hans Bracklein

February 1, 1923 — October 27, 2009

Mason City Hans Bracklein, 86, of Boone, IA, died Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at the Boone County Hospital in Boone, IA. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday (October 30, 2009) at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 4th St. S.E., with Pastor Paul Nelson and Pastor David Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with veterans honors performed by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be held from 12:30 P.M. till the time of the service on Friday at the church. Memorials may be directed to St. James Lutheran Church.
Hans was born February 1, 1923 in Altlussheim, Germany, the son of William C. and Magdelena (Benz) Bracklein. He came to Mason City with his family in 1924. He attended and graduated from Mason City High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served in WWII, he was honorably discharged in 1946. After his return from the service he began employment with the U.S. Postal Service and worked as a letter carrier for 30 years until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of NALC, AARP, and the V.F.W. He also was a long time member of St. James Lutheran Church. Hans enjoyed playing golf in his early years, he also like playing bingo and doing crossword puzzles.
He was survived by his two sons, Jay A. Bracklein and wife Fabia of Boone, IA, Jerry L. Bracklein of Boone; four grandchildren; five great-gradchildren; sisters, Betty of Cedar Rapids, Barbara Offedahl of St. Paul, MN; brothers, Conrad Bracklein and wife Ruth of Saratoga, CA, David Bracklein and wife Helen of Ann Arbor, MI, and Robert Bracklein.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn; brother, Willie, Fritz, Robert and John Bracklein and sister, Anna Brunsvold
