U.S. Grant Beverly, 84, of 622 9th St. NW, died Monday (October 6, 2003) at the IOOF Home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday at the First Christian Church, 318 N. Adams, with Rev. Mark Young, Clear Lake Christian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, and continue at the church one hour before services. Grant was born September 15, 1919 in Wise, VA the son of U.S. Grant and Cynthia (Gilliam) Beverly. Grant served in the US Marine Corp during WW II from 1940 to 1946. He would later retire from the Army reserves. Grant married Velma M. Jackson April 5, 1946 in San Jose, California. Grant worked in sales for the automobile tire industry for many years retiring from J & L Tire Company. He was a member of the First Christian Church, VFW, American Legion, UCT, enjoyed hunting and Iowa Hawkeye Football. Grant is survived by his wife; Velma M. Beverly of Mason City, sons; Thomas R. Beverly and wife Karen of Easton, PA, Paul G. Beverly and wife Diane of Omaha, NE, grandchildren; Justin, Elizabeth, Andrew, David, Melissa and Brian, sisters; Bertha Insley of Bend, OR, Martha Hillman of Little Rock, AR, Cordelia Baker of Johnson City, TN, many nieces and nephews. Grant was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and 5 sisters.
