Gordon Calvin Mennen, 81, of 42 25th Street SW, died Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. A funeral mass will be held 10:30 AM Saturday at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church, 302 5th Street SE with Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue Saturday one hour before services in the chapel at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church. A rosary service will be held at 6:45 PM Friday followed by a scriptural wake service at 7:00 PM at Major Erickson Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Gordon Mennen Memorial Fund. Gordon was born February 6, 1925 in Aplington, Iowa, the son of Ecko and Florence (Deters) Mennen. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. Gordon married Patricia Cornelius May 28, 1949 at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church. He worked for Davey & Moen Construction Company for 42 years, retiring in 1987 as a construction superintendent. Gordon was a member of St. Joseph?s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, VFW and the local carpenters union. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, woodworking, golfing, bowling and sporting events. Gordon gave generously of his time and talent to help his family, friends and community. Gordon is survived by his children, Gary (Nancy) Mennen of Mason City, Monica (David) Barnes of Plymouth, Loretta (James) Ellsworth of Lakeville, Minnesota, Terry (Valerie) Mennen of Hoover, Alabama, Gordon J. (Vickie) Mennen of Mason City, Douglas (Kendra) Mennen of Mason City and James (Kris) Mennen of Iowa City; grandchildren, John (Christy) Mennen, Amy (Tony) O?Connell, David Barnes (Kristina Harnish), Matthew (Kassie) Barnes, Christopher (Brea) Ellsworth, Brian (Kasia) Ellsworth, Andrew and Erin Ellsworth, Justin and Brent Mennen, Mike and Robby Mennen, Nick, Ben, Elizabeth and Heather Mennen, Zach, Luke and Brooke Mennen; great grandchildren, Haley Mennen, Mya and Leah O?Connell, LeAnne and Ava Barnes; brothers and sisters, Ecko (Helen) Mennen Jr. of Waterloo, Gertrude Neymeyer of Waterloo, Elva Dreier of Waterloo, Richard (Dixie) Mennen of Mason City, Eunice Kuhn of Charles City, Cecil (Evelyn) Mennen of Columbus Junction, Delores (Robert) Herington of Cedar Rapids, Imogene (Rocky) Moyle of Springfield, Missouri and Rosalind (Terry) Andreassen of Waterloo; many nieces and nephews. Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Patricia; grandson, Jason Mennen and sister, Florence Janssen.
