Gordon L. Kennison

MASON CITY Gordon L. Kennison, age 70, of 904 N. Van Buren, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at his Mason City home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at First Assembly of God, 1301 N. Carolina Ave., with Pastor Clyde Harvey officiating. Interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 7:00 P.M. on Monday, December 14, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to First Assembly of God, the Salvation Army, or an organization of donors choice.

Gordon was born May 23, 1939, in Mason City, IA, the son of Claude and Margaret (Vigdahl) Kennison. His grade school education was completed at the Howardville school northeast of Floyd, IA, and he graduated from Charles City High School in 1958. In his early working years he was employed at the Oliver Tractor Plant in Charles City, IA, and also worked two years at Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, WA. He spent most of his working years as an over-the-road truck driver, covering most of the U. S., with several years spent in regular runs to the east coast. Gordon retired from Curries Manufacturing Company in Mason City around 1998. Gordon toured much of the U.S. by motorcycle. These trips included places such as the Smokey Mountains and the length of the Rockies in the western U. S. When he was a small boy he developed an interest in Southern Gospel music. Throughout his life he attended many singing conventions in the country and was a regular at the National Quartet Convention in Louisville, KY. Gordon loved people, was an excellent conversationalist, and had a genuine interest in the lives of anyone he was conversing with.

Gordon is survived by his son, Timothy Lee Kennison of Charles City, IA; granddaughter, Saphire Lynn Kennison of Charles City; brothers, Philip (Mary Jean) Kennison of San Angelo, TX, Thomas (Barbara) Kennison of Orchard, IA, and David Kennison of Erie, CO; sister, Kathryn (Bob) Barker of St. Louis, MO; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
