SHAKOPEE, MN: Gerrie Lynn Delaney, 62, of Shakopee, Minnesota, formerly of Mason City, Iowa, died peacefully at St. Gertrudes Health Center, Shakopee, Tuesday, September 7, 2010 of an extended illness. There will be a celebration of her life and gathering of family and friends on Sunday, September 12, 2010 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City, Iowa A private family gathering at St. Patricks Daily Chapel will be held Monday, September 13, 2010 at 10:00 AM in Iowa City, Iowa. Inurnment will follow in St. Josephs Cemetery, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Gerrie Delaney Memorial Fund in care of the family, 1289 Jefferson Street South, Shakopee, MN 55379. Gifts will be made in her memory to the Mason City High School Scholarship Fund and to Saints Foundation (St. Gertrudes Health Center Circle of Life Fund). Gerrie was born April 27, 1948 in Memphis, Tennessee, daughter of Lieutenant Colonial Herman D. and Bettye Coleman Wells. Gerrie was a 1966 graduate of Northeast High School in St. Petersburg, Florida. She attended University of Nebraska Lincoln and received her degree in education from Buena Vista College. Gerrie married Daniel Joseph Delaney on June 10, 1967 at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. Gerrie was an avid reader, lover of history and animals, gardening, and was a life long learner. She was a master teacher who shared her love and knowledge with her students in the Mason City Community School District. She treasured her family and friends. Gerrie was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Gerrie is survived by her husband, Daniel and their three daughters, Angela (Kevin) Gutzmer and their children Emilee, Daniel and Thomas of Jordan, MN, Kerri (James) Delaney-Horton and their daughter Elizabeth of Shakopee, MN, Rebecca and her children Ethan and Delaney of Akron, OH; father Lieutenant Colonial Herman D. Wells and his wife Colline of Winter Springs, FL; sister, Linda (John) Tomlinson of Maitland, FL; brother Paul (Jody) Wells of Braxton, MS; and numerous extended family. She was preceded in death by her mother.
