Geraldine W. Hyde

Geraldine W. Hyde, 90, of the Manly Nursing and Rehab Center, died Thursday (March 17, 2005) at the Manly Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday at the Rock Falls United Methodist Church, Rock Falls with Rev. Jim Turner officiating. Interment will be in the Rock Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue one hour before the service Saturday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Geraldine W. Hyde Memorial Fund. Geraldine was born April 30, 1914 in Rock Falls the daughter of William and Ethel (Schnartz) Edgar. She graduated from Rock Falls High School in 1931 and Iowa State Teachers College in 1933. Geraldine married Forrest C. Hyde November 30, 1934 in Marshalltown. She would further her education graduating from Mason City Junior College in 1957 then receiving a B.A. degree from Drake University in 1968. Geraldine taught school in Rock Falls for 24 years. She moved to Manly in November of 2001. She was a life member of the Rock Falls United Methodist Church where she was church organist for 30 years. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association, NEA-ISEA and the Rock Falls Cemetery Association. Geraldine is survived by two sons, Robert Hyde and wife Marilyn of Rock Falls, James Hyde and wife Sandra of Northwood; one daughter, Barbara Eppens and husband Duane of Mason City; seven grandchildren, Brenda Wernet, Angee Marshall, Randee Hyde, Amy Roen, Tammy Borchardt, Mark Eppens and Chris Eppens; ten great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; brother, Roland Edgar of Manly; sister-in-law, Evelyn Hyde of Independence; several nieces and nephews. Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Forrest; sister, Levetta Nicholas; brothers, David and Russell Edgar.
