Gerald (Jerry) W. Wendel

Gerald “Jerry” W. Wendel, 71, of Mason City, died Saturday, December 21, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. Jerry was born March 13, 1942, in Mason City, IA, the son of Harold and Liola (Kilfoil) Wendel. He married Iris Haight on November 10, 1963. Jerry was a strong inspiration and example to his family. He will be greatly missed. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Jerry is survived by his wife of 50 years: Iris Wendel; 3 children: John, Julie (Randy) Sonne, and Matthew; 3 grandchildren: Zack, Cole and Brandt Sonne; 3 brothers: George, Tom, and Harold (Doris) Wendel; and 4 sisters: Lila Perry, Mary (Jerome) Baker, Loyola Bohnsack, and Paula (John) Chambers. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister: Juanita Johnson; and 2 brothers: Cliff and Howard Wendel. Per his wishes, there will be no services. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery.
