CHATHAM , ILLINOIS: Gerald “Jerry” Hanson, 64, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at his home in Chatham. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City with Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating. Jerry was born May 18, 1949 to John and Mary Ellen (Currier) Hanson in Mason City, Iowa and the oldest of 4 boys. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and was retired pharmacist. Jerry was a devoted Christian who loved serving the Lord. He was a very patient, caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Jerry was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and Iowa Hawkeye fan that enjoyed watching sports, coaching baseball, fishing, reading and spending time with family and friends. Jerry is survived by his wife, Barbara (Bohlen) Hanson of 41 years; two daughters, Jessica Hanson, Jerilee “Jera” Hanson; five grandchildren, Sabrina, Ashanti, Artez, Madison and Neveah; mother, Mary Ellen Hanson; three brothers, Paul (Nancy) Hanson, Bill (Cheryl) Hanson, Mike (Kim) Hanson; mother-in-law, Neva (Dean) Bohlen; three brothers-in-law, Steve (Val) Bohlen, Forrest (Becky) Bohlen, Brad (Maureen) Bohlen; sister-in-law, Debra (Victor) Scopel; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, John Hanson and father-in-law, Leo Bohlen.
