The first child of George and Marlus Johnson (Allen), Jana was born on June 28, 1933, in Mason City, Iowa. The family lived in a number of towns throughout Iowa, but returned to Mason City when Jana was in her late teens. It was there that she met Byron Hill, and the two were married in 1956. A generous, gregarious and creative person, Jana spent much of her time with her family, with her friends in Inter-creek Club, volunteering, gardening, reading books, doing crafts, playing word games on her iPad with many friends and family, and doing crossword puzzles. In addition, Jana and Byron were dedicated members of the local White Shrine for over 50 years. Jana is survived by her husband, their children Jon (Julia Matteson), Sara, and Jay (Darla Clark), and four grandchildren, Megan (Evan Ware), Kevin (Amanda Roth), Molly, and Maddy with whom Jana loved spending time. She is also survived by her siblings, Sharon Lomholt, Judy Johnson, and George Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her siblings, Mary Lauritson, Ed Johnson, and Tom Johnson. Jana was a curious and wise woman with a spirited sense of humor who offered kindness to everyone she met. She was a beloved wife and caring mother who raised her three children on the family farm. She was wonderfully loving and considerate, with a positive outlook and love for life, and she will be dearly missed by her many friends and family members.
