George Phinney, 79, of 27 ? 35th St. S.E., died Saturday, May 26, 2007 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Memorial services will be held 1:30 PM Saturday, June 2, 2007, at the Grace United Methodist Church, 200 14th St. N.W. with Rev. Steve Hansen officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be given to the George Phinney Memorial Fund and Grace United Methodist Church Parking Lot. George was born July 16, 1927 in Sutherland, Iowa the son of Frank and Inez (Miller) Phinney. He graduated from Tigard Oregon High School in 1945. George enjoyed flying, coffee club at the airport, and the annual Oshkosh trips. George helped establish the Men?s Club at Grace United Methodist Church and served as president for many years. He also served as lay speaker and Sunday school leader for several years. George built and flew experimental aircrafts and flew many types of planes. He had a life long passion for aviation and attended the EAA National Convention since the 1960?s. George is survived by three sons: Douglas Phinney and wife Leeza of Ventura, IA, Donald Phinney of Clear Lake, and Dean Phinney and wife Theresa of Coralville, IA; five grandchildren: Justin, Brandon, Ashley, Melissa (Scott) Keating and Anthony; and one great-granddaughter: Kayla. George will also be missed by his special friend Marilyn (Cookie) Schiff and her daughters: Val Suby and her husband Kirk, and Shelly Miller Schiff; and their children: Christian (Allison) Schiff and Kylie, Mark Sachen, Amber (Todd) Eldridge and Austin and Allison, and Andrew Suby. George will also be missed by his beloved cat, Monkey. George is preceded in death by his parents. George is preceded in death by his parents.
