MASON CITY George M. Pion, 85, of Mason City, died Saturday, October 8, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams, with Rev. Michael Schueller officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania, with a Rosary Service being held at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be held in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery with Military Rites performed by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Memorials may be directed to Holy Family Catholic Church.
George was born March 13, 1926, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Louis and Marie (Boone) Pion. He graduated from Mason City High School before attending the University of Iowa. He served his country in the Navy for four years. George was united in marriage to Doris Slebiska in 1950 and to this union came three children: Georgine, Dorita and Kirk. He retired from the Milwaukee Railroad in 1986 but that didnt stop him from continuing to work as a volunteer.
George is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris, of Mason City; three children, Georgine Pion of Nashville, TN, Dorita Sondereker of Las Vegas, NV, Kirk Pion of Chicago, IL; one grandson, Nathan Pion.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Louis, Morris, Rolly and Gene Pion.

Memorials:
Memorials may be directed to Holy Family Catholic Church.

Cemetery:
Interment will be held in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery with Military Rites performed by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.
