Gary Lee Johnson

February 22, 1940 — July 28, 2008

Gary Lee Johnson, 68, of Mason City, died Monday, July 28, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa.  Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M., on Thursday, July 31, 2008, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave with the Rev. Steve Palo officiating.  Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.   Memorials may be directed to the Northern Lights Mens Homeless Shelter. 
Gary was born February 22, 1940, in Iowa City, Iowa the son of James and Orean (Anderson) Johnson. He loved to play cards, especially cribbage, liked fishing and also camping in the desert with his brother Bob.  Gary was especially close to his sister, Judy and brother-in-law John.  He liked spending the winter months in Florida and Southern California over the years.  Gary didnt have much, but always helped his friends whenever he could.  He was always very compassionate towards the less fortunate and always helped if he could.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gary is survived by his children, Karen Middleton of Mason City, Lori Enderson of Perry, IA, and Vonda Blackford of Mason City; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; siblings, Lavonne Rushing of Columbia, S.C., Judy Wood and husband John of Laguna Niguel, CA, Bob Johnson and Wife Mei of Huntington Beach, CA and Donna Bull and husband Mike of Nora Springs; half siblings, Barbara Noel, Danny Davison, Dorene Weiland, and Scott Davison.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Orean (Anderson) Davison, and his father, James (Happy) Johnson and his half-brother, Dave Davison.
His family would like to thank his friends at the Shalom Towers I for their help and support, especially Rick and Dorothy. Also, thanks to Pete @ Petes Corner for all the rides he gave to Gary.
