Gary L. Mineart

October 18, 1950 — February 1, 2008

Gary L. Mineart, 57, of Nora Springs, died Friday, February 1, 2008 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.  Memorial services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at the First Baptist Church, 125 East State St. with the Rev. Ron Stein officiating.  Inurnment will be held at a later date.  A gathering of friends and family will be held one hour prior to the services at the church.  Memorials may be directed to the Gary L. Mineart memorial fund in care of the family. Gary, the son of the late LaVernon Shadow Mineart and the late Dixie (Irons) Mineart, was born October 18th, 1950 in Mason City, Iowa.  He attended Mason City community schools and graduated in 1969.  After he graduated, he served in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1973.  He was honorably discharged in 1973 and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. Gary worked for VanHorn Auto Salvage in Mason City for 30 years before retiring in 2001.  He also was very committed to the Stardust Lanes running the karaoke machine and tending bar.  A few of the things Gary cherished were the Green Bay Packers, his grandchildren, his family and friends, bowling, game shows, crossword puzzles, automobiles, and playing cards. He was married to Rebecca Nicholson on March 23, 1973 and were blessed with two children, Nicole and Nathan. Gary was an avid sports fan but his favorite athletes were his children who were active in sports in high school.  Gary will always be remembered as the Right Field Guy who would always be standing in the right field during softball and baseball games. Gary will sadly be missed be his children, Nicole (Jason) Kesten of Mason City, and Nathan (Heather)Mineart of Coralville, IA; his six grandchildren, Jayden, Justin, Tobias, and Isaiah of Mason City and Cade and Rhys of Coralville; siblings, Nancy Roberts(Gene), Mark Mineart, Mike Mineart (Holly), Susan VanHorn (Terry), Alvin Mineart(Jennifer), Gary Darling(Jill), Jean Hauan(Mike), Vicki Richardson, and Susan Martin(Mike) and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father LaVernon Shadow Mineart, his mother Dixie (Irons) Mineart, and special family friends Kip Malone and Marlys and Wilmer Adrian.
