Garth E. Lovejoy, 80, of Mason City, died Sunday, August 26, 2012, at Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, August 30, 2012, at First United Methodist Church, 119 South Georgia, with Pastor Sean McRoberts officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery with Veterans Honors performed by the Mason City Veterans Association. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to the Garth E. Lovejoy memorial fund in care of the family or the First United Methodist Church. Garth was born August 27, 1931 in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Dorlan and Ruth (Kingsley) Lovejoy. He attended and graduated from Waverly High School. He married Lorraine Chapin on September 23, 1952 in Lawton, OK and to this union three sons were born. Garth enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict from 1952-54, he was honorably discharged March 3, 1954. Garth graduated from Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, MN in 1956, then moved to Mason City and worked at Mason City Millwork for the next forty years until retirement. Garth worked in sales and always enjoyed driving the area taking care of his customers, many turning into long lasting friendships. Garth was involved with the Boy Scouts for 33 years. Over those years, he received the Award of Merit and also the Silver Beaver Award. He was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees and Finance Committee, he also was very proud of being a part of the Last Supper portrayal, portraying Matthew. Garth enjoyed traveling and camping with his family. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his children, Douglas Lovejoy and wife Karen of Cedar Falls, Jay Lovejoy of Mason City, and Kevin Lovejoy and wife Sara of Manly, Iowa; grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew, Jordan, Daniel, Erika and Nathan; one great-grandchild, Parker; sisters-in-law, Beth Lovejoy of Waverly, IA, LaVera Benzine of Janesville, IA, Marillyn Chapin of Dickinson, TX; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Mallie of Mt. Vernon, IA, and Robert Chapin and wife Mary Lee of Tripoli, IA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine; parents; brother, Keith Lovejoy; granddaughter, Kathlyn; and several brothers and sisters-in-laws. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Good Shepherd Care Center for all their compassion and wonderful care.

Cemetery:
Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery with Veterans Honors performed by the Mason City Veterans Association.

Memorials may be directed to the Garth E. Lovejoy memorial fund in care of the family or the First United Methodist Church.

Visitation:
Visitation will be held 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.
