Dr. G. Travis Westly, 85, of 324 2nd St. NE, died Wednesday (September 8, 2004) at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. Donald L. Simmonds officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa, Good Shepherd Health Center or Mercy Medical Center Foundation. Dr. Westly was born July 24, 1919 in Rockford, Illinois the son of Gabriel S. and Beatrice (Cron) Westly. He graduated from Manly High School, the University of Iowa (Phi Beta Kappa) and the University of Iowa School of Medicine (AKA). Dr. Westly interned at University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia. It was there he met his future wife, Edith. They were married March 2, 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Westly served with the US Army in Germany during WW II for 2 years. Following his discharge, he served his surgical residency at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. The Westly?s moved to Mason City in 1954 where Dr. Westly joined the Independent Medical Surgical Group. He was a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, past president of staff at Mercy Hospital and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Dr. Westly enjoyed cross county skiing in Steamboat Springs, CO, sailing and music. He will be greatly missed by his family especially his grandchildren. Dr. Westly is survived by his son, G. Travis Westly Jr. and wife Amanda of Bethesda, MD; daughters, Carole Anne Stafford and husband Dr. Richard of Edina, MN, Deanna Jean Tiffin and husband David of Bernardsville, NJ; grandchildren, James, Jennifer, William and Abigail Westly, John and Benjamin Stafford, Kristopher and Sarah Tiffin; brother, Malcolm Westly and wife Marilyn of Tampa, FL; brother-in-law, Carl Wathne and wife Alice of Salem, MA; sister-in-laws, Dorothy Westly of Mason City, Betty Robertson of Washington, NJ. Dr. Westly?s parents, beloved wife, Edith and brother, Dr. J. Stephen Westly preceded him in death. Dr. G.
