Frances Herrera, 98 of Mason City died Monday, November 29, 2004 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, December 2, 2004 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 North Adams Avenue with the Rev. Jon Seda officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. ? 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue in Mason City. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Hospice of North Iowa or Holy Family Catholic Church. Frances Flores was born November 25, 1906 the daughter of Joe Flores and Lupe (Ameskau) Flores in Adio, Michoacan, Mexico. Frances came to the United States at the age of 9. She first came to Mason City and then moved to Gary, Indiana where she met and married Albert E. ?Shorty? Herrera on February 11, 1927. Shorty and Frances returned to Mason City in 1928. Frances was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She and her husband always enjoyed the various church activities. Frances enjoyed cooking, crocheting and was known for her beautiful flower gardens. Frances is survived by her four sons: Jesse J. Herrera and wife Fran of Carnation, Washington, Albert T. Herrera Jr. and wife Barbara of Mason City, Joe H. Herrera and wife Sally of Mason City, and Rich L. Herrera and wife Sharon of West Des Moines. Other survivors include her grandchildren: Teri Herrera, Lori Alitz, Jean Schultz, Jeff Herrera, Randy Herrera, Toni Herrera, Jodi Herrera, Sheri Herrera, Joleen Herrera, Staci Herrera; her 12 Great Grandchildren and two brothers, Tony Flores of Guadalajara, Mexico and Jesse Flores of Los Angeles, California. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Lupe Flores, husband Albert E. ?Shorty? Herrera Sr. in 1997, a daughter in infancy, Carmen Herrera, three sisters and two brothers.
