Ernest H. Schmidt, 82, of 903 ? 7th Street SE, died Saturday, February 3, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Wednesday in the chapel at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 ? 4th Street SE with Pastor Paul Nelson officiating. Interment will be in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, Titonka, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue at the church on Wednesday one hour before services. Memorials may be given to the Ernest H. Schmidt Memorial Fund. Ernie was born February 2, 1925 in Woden, Iowa the son of Henry and Lena (Boyken) Schmidt. He attended school in Woden. Ernie farmed in the Woden area for many years and also worked for Winnebago Industries in Forest City. He married Marilyn H. George February 10, 1952 in Mason City. Ernie and Marilyn later moved to Mason City. He worked in maintenance at North Iowa Area Community College for 11 years, retiring in 1991. Ernie was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. He enjoyed gardening, yard work and was especially proud of his two grandchildren. Ernie is survived by is wife, Marilyn M. Schmidt of Mason City; daughters, Judy Spear and husband Roger of Woden, Tammy Millard and husband Brian of Mason City; granddaughter, Amy Luedke and husband Scott of Elgin, Illinois and grandson, Brandon Millard of Mason City; twin sister, Erna Sleper of Titonka. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Debra; 2 sisters, Lena Mae Hickey and Marie Schmidt; 3 ½ brothers, Dick, William and Henry Mayland
