MASON CITY; Elaine Eleanor (Lloyd) Person, 319 S. Rhode Island, died December 9, 2008 at Hennepin County Medical Center at the age of 83. A celebration of her life will be held December 18, 11:00 a.m., at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 First St. N.E., Mason City, Iowa, with Pastor Patty Aurand officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. An inurnment will be at a later date at Fort Dodge Northlawn Cemetery. If anyone wishes to make a memorial in Elaines memory, the family suggests the First Congregational United Church of Christ or the American Cancer Society. \r\n

Elaine Eleanor (Lloyd) Person was born November 10, 1925 at Spirit Lake, Iowa. Her parents were Emrys John (E.J.) Lloyd and Dr. Myrtle (Price) Lloyd. She graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1943. She attended Fort Dodge Junior College on a music scholarship. In l943 Elaine was one of six women chosen to play in the previously all male Karl King Municipal Band. She attended Iowa State University and graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree. \r\n

Elaine was united in marriage to Lester E. Person March 30, 1947. They lived in Fort Dodge until l968, when they moved to Mason City, Iowa. She helped Les manage their Clear Lake and Humboldt KFCs. From 1985 until 1989 they lived in Humboldt, Iowa, moving back to Mason City in 1989. \r\n

Sewing, reading, and collecting antiques were some of Elaines interests. She was a strong proponent of alternative energy sources. She enjoyed traveling, especially her annual visits to her son Johns family in San Diego. Les and Elaine attended many KFC national conventions, and visited his relatives in Sweden. In Fort Dodge she taught Sunday school for many years and was a Cub Scout den mother. She belonged to the Humboldt Business and Professional Women, and received the BPW Woman of the Year award in 1994.\r\n
\r\n
Survivors include her three children, Karen K. Person, Des Moines, Iowa; Dr. John L. Person (Ellen), San Diego, California; and James L. Person (Becky), Clear Lake, Iowa. She was survived by five grandchildren, Shawn, Sarah, Abigail, Katelyn, and Jeffrey Person, and a step-grandchild, Jarod Farnham. Elaine also has a step-great grandchild in Ireland, Aidan Farnham. She is also survived by a sister, Jane Martens (David), of Washington, Michigan and Green Valley, Arizona, and several nieces and nephews.\r\n
\r\n
She was preceded in death by her husband Lester, her parents, and a step-grandchild, Jerome Farnham.
