Mason City ? Eilef J. Erickson, 92 of Mason City died Saturday, June 23, 2007 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Our Saviour?s Lutheran Church, 2502 South Jefferson Avenue with Rev. Jack Gannett officiating and Rev. Tom Healey Hospice Chaplain. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M. on Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery with Veterans Honors performed by the Mason City Memorial Association. Memorials may be directed to Our Saviour?s Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa. Eilef was born April 19, 1915 to Norwegian immigrants Peder and Sigrid (Anderson) Erickson. They returned to Norway in 1921 and then returned back to Mason City in 1925. Eilef was very proud of his Norwegian heritage, and maintained contact with his Norwegian cousins after a trip to Norway in 1991. Eilef was a master carpenter and worked as a foreman for Davey & Moen Construction Company. He taught carpentry at the junior college after World War II. Before retiring, he worked as a carpenter for the Mason City School District. During World War II, he served in the Army Corp of Engineers in Europe. Eilef was a charter member of Our Saviour?s Lutheran Church and used his carpentry skills during the building of the church. Besides woodworking, he was passionate about fishing, usually with special friend Beulah Quisling. A highlight of each day was his visit with special neighbors Jim and Sharon Leppert and Connie and Mark Dempsy. Eilef is survived by his daughters, Judy (Ron) Davisson of Minneapolis, Mary Alice (Mike) Lindquist of Rochester, Linda (Walter) Enders of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and special niece Sharon (Lee) Phearman of Charles City. Grandchildren are Jeff Sawyer, Peder (Michelle) Davisson, Steve (Tricia) Sawyer, Lisa Davisson, and Marsha (Rory) Evans. Great-Grandchildren are Graham and Collin Sawyer, Sydnee Lindquist, Gretchen and Jonathan Davisson. A brother, Arthur of Loveland, Colorado, also survives him. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother Ingolf, Sister Valborg Tiedeman and Beloved Wife Bertha (Hert).
