Durwood D. Baker, 84, of 1017 Manor Drive, died Saturday, September 17, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. Kenneth Hatland officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be given to the Durwood D. Baker Memorial Fund. Durwood was born August 4, 1921 in Swaledale, Iowa the son of Arnold and Mary (Schulz) Baker. He graduated from Swaledale High School in 1938 and moved to Mason City in 1941. Durwood served in the US Army during WW II. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Durwood married LaVonne C. Lunning March 17, 1943 in Neosha, Missouri. He worked for International Harvester from 1946 to 1952. In the late 1950?s the Baker?s lived in Decorah where they owned and operated a Creamy Freeze. While in Decorah, Durwood served on the city council. They returned to Mason City in 1960 where Durwood worked as a realtor with Baker Homes Realty and later Oleson Realty. Durwood was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lions Club, VFW and was past president of the Sertoma Club and the Mason City Board of Realtors. Durwood is survived by his wife, LaVonne C. Baker of Mason City; son, Dennis Baker and wife Judy of Apple Valley, Minnesota; daughter, Cheryl Kettner and husband Bruce of Irvine, California; grandchildren, Christopher, Suzanne, Christa, Jennifer and Stephanie; great grandchildren, Brittany, Sydney, Arianna, Brittney and Brennan; brother, Carold Baker of Waterloo. Durwood was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marvyl ?Sue? Tanner
