Dorothy E. Rugger

Dorothy E. Rugger, 82, of 2349 20th St. S.W., Mason City, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa from surgical complications. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 15, 2010 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Tom Martin of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett, IA officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM 7:00 PM on Thursday (October 14, 2010) at Major Erickson Funeral Home. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Dorothy Rugger Memorial Fund in care of the family. Dorothy Eleanor Ward was born February 21, 1928 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of William J. and Ada (Simon) Ward. She was united in marriage to Clifford A. Rugger on January 27, 1974 in Homestead, IA. She was employed as a clerk for both the Rock Island Lines and the Northwestern Railroad in Mason City. Dorothy was a caring and generous person who was devoted to the well-being of her family members. Dorothy enjoyed her home, cooking, gardening, music, family, and friends. She loved dining out. Dorothy also loved helping people in need and giving to many charities. Dorothy is survived by one sister: Gladys Lewis of Charles City; sister-in-law: Ruth Ward of Mason City; step-son: Kip Rugger; step-daughter: Cynthia Rugger; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1983; two brothers: Jack and Sherman; one sister: Margie Stearns.
