Doris Marson, 91, of Mason City, died Saturday, January 31, 2004 at the Heritage Care Center. Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, the Reverend Dr. John ?Jack? Gannett, St. John?s Episcopal Church, will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to the Doris Marson Memorial Fund. Doris Bower was born July 24, 1912 in Salford, England the daughter of Albert and Anne (Lewis) Bower. Doris graduated from Mason City High School in 1931, and on February 27, 1932 she was united in marriage to Clifford ?Ben? Marson in Mason City. Doris was a violinist and always played the violin she had from England handed down from her father. Doris enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, was interested in politics as she attended many City Council meetings over the years, and volunteered at Roosevelt Elementary School to read to the students. Doris was a member of St. John?s Episcopal Church, the Senior Citizens Center, and the NIACC Symphony. Doris is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter Joanne Hjelle and her husband Oscar of Mason City, her sister Genevieve Johnson and her husband Harold of Britt, Iowa, her grandchildren: Michael Hjelle and his wife Jackie of Mason City, Peter Hjelle and his wife RaNae of Mason City, and Cynthia Pike and her husband James of Mason City; 9 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother Albert Bower, and three sisters: Stella Parks, Elsie Peterson, and Joanne Francis.
