MASON CITY ? Doris I. Oswald, 90, of 302 2nd St. N.E., Mason City, died Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday (March 21, 2006) at Fertile Lutheran Church with the Lay Pastor David Halverson of the Fertile Lutheran Church and the Pastor John Bailey officiating. Interment will be held in Brush Point Cemetery in rural Fertile. Visitation will be held 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday (March 20, 2006) at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to the donor?s choice. Doris was born June 5, 1915 on the family farm southwest of Fertile, the daughter of Andrew P. and Celia (Halverson) Suby. She resided in Fertile most of her life. She was a life-long member of the Fertile Lutheran Church. She graduated from Fertile Consolidated High School in 1933. Doris married Roland A. Oswald on October 24, 1936. Doris worked at various jobs throughout her life, but she will be remembered best for her many years as a cook at the Fertile School. She moved to the Manor in Mason City in 1991 and moved to the Good Shepherd Health Center in May 2005. During this time she attended Trinity Lutheran Church and was a very active participant in making quilts for Lutheran World Missions. Doris was a loving, caring lady who loved her family very much. Because of her easy-going nature, she enjoyed the friendship of many acquaintances. She is survived by her children: a daughter, Karen R. Bailey and her husband John of Marion, IA; a daughter, Ellamae Butler and her husband, Lowell of Mason City; a son, Richard (Rick) A. Oswald of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren: Dawn Stephens and her husband, Robert of Marion, IA; Perry L. Butler and his wife, Danette of Southlake, TX; Troy A. Bailey and his wife, Nora of Dallas, TX; and Jan E. Schmall and her husband, Dr. Robert of Sioux Falls, SD; great-grandchildren: Michael Stephens, Jeffrey Stephens, Mitchell Butler, Astyn Timmons, Benjamin Butler, Jacob Schmall and Noah Schmall; a sister, Cora Jenkins; and several nieces and nephews. Major Erickson Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. (641)423-0924.
