November 23, 1925 — April 15, 2015

MASON CITY: Donald E. Wood, 89, of Mason City, died Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, April 17, 2015 at the First Assembly of God Church, 1301 N. Carolina Avenue with Pastor George Ady officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Donald Wood Memorial Fund. Don was born November 23, 1925 in Woden, Iowa the son of William and Ethel Mae (Hammond) Wood. Don served in the US Navy during WWII. Following his honorable discharge in 1946, he met his wife, Ardith M. Campbell and they were married June 5, 1948 in Mason City. Don worked for Lehigh Cement Company in Mason City for 39 years. Following his retirement, he enjoyed working at the North Iowa Fair Grounds where he worked until 2009. Don was a very generous and giving man. He enjoyed helping others if that meant working on their cars and homes. A passion of his was tinkering. He enjoyed the outdoors and the many trips with his family to Okoboji and yearly fishing trips to Minnesota and the Wisconsin Dells. In 1970, Don returned to Mason City High School to finish his high school education. He graduated that year in the same class as his daughter Jennifer. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church and the VFW. Don is survived by his wife, Ardith M Wood of Mason City; 4 children, Shelly Wood, Jennifer (Spencer) Dedor, Brian (Susan) Wood and Kurt Wood all of Mason City; 7 grandchildren, Christina Kingery and special friend Steve Milton, Betsy Boyea, Jason (Diane) Brewer, Melissa (Kevin) Jones, Angela (Zane) Kantaris, Billie Sue (Jacob) Hiatt and Brian Wood Jr.; 13 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; 5 sisters, Lois Hanna of Woden, Lorraine Naser of New Richmond, Wisconsin, Lola Wittmeier of Fort Dodge, LaDonna (Don) Gigler of Columbia, Missouri and Linda (Ken) DeWaard of Britt; 2 brothers, William (Faith) Wood of Richfield, Minnesota, Larry (Betty) Wood of Woden; brother-in-law, Don Isebrand of Woden; sister-in-law, Hazel Wood of Garner; many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 2 brothers and 4 brothers-in-law.
