Donald Eugene Casey, 80, of Mason City, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 2502 South Jefferson Ave. with Pastor Sid Bohls of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors performed by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Friday (July 13, 2012) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to the Donald E. Casey Memorial Fund in care of the family. Memorials may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com Donald was born September 17th 1931 in Des Moines Iowa to Alfred and Gena Casey (Skarsten). He graduated from Benson High School in Benson MN. in 1949. After high school, Donald enlisted in the US Navy in the fall of 1950 and served during the time of the Korean War on an ammunition ship, the USS Great Sitkin. He moved to Hampton IA following his service in the Navy. Donald met Yvonne Casey at a box social at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Mason City and married her in April 1955. To this union were born six children, Michael, Darrell, Timothy, Debra, Diane, and Lori Ann. Donald was a self-employed contractor in Mason City, and built many homes. Donald was an enthusiastic fan of Minnesota Gophers sports. He was in tune with all of their programs, but had a special love for the men’s basketball and the football teams. Don was also a fan of Minnesota Vikings football. Any initiated sports conversations could easily encompass hours. Donald loved spending time with his family gathered around him, and enjoyed attending his grandkids’ birthday parties, and celebrating holidays together. Donald was well known by all that encountered him by his infectious and boisterous laugh. Donald is survived by his children, Mike Casey and his wife Linda of Mason City, Darrell Casey of Mason City, Tim Casey and his wife Michele of Mason City, Debra Casey-von der Linde of Mason City, Diane Hanson and her husband Dale of Mason City, Lori Casey-Bartz of Mason City; his grandchildren, Michael Casey Jr. of Clear Lake, Melinda Hoffman and her husband Keegan of Mason City, Justin Hanson and his wife Allison of Mason City, Sarah Casey of Iowa City, Brittany Hanson of Mason City, Taylor Fields of Mason City, Ryan Casey of Mason City, Isaac Bartz of Mason City, Dylan Casey and Brandon Casey of Mason City; great-grandchildren, Violet and Autumn Casey of Shelbyville KY and Aleah Hoffman of Mason City; his sister, Marie (Mick) Whitehurst and her husband, Lee of Clear Lake and brother, Dennis Casey of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Gena Casey, his wife Yvonne, his brother Alfred Casey Jr. (Bud), sisters Ann Rickard and Gloria Gyldenvand and nephews, Robert Casey and Jay Whitehurst.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors performed by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Memorials may be directed to the Donald E. Casey Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Visitation:
Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Friday (July 13, 2012) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.
