Dennis Ralph Mackie, 54, of Mason City, died Saturday (February 12, 2005) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Winnebago, Minnesota at a later date. There will be no visitation. Dennis was born on the 8th day of September 1950 the son of Harland and Janet C. (Johnson) Mackie. The family moved to California where Dennis attended school. He excelled in sports where he was named athlete of the year for several years. He returned to Winnebago graduating from high school in 1969. Dennis met his wife, Debra Sather, in Waseca and had 2 children, Jessica and Jameson. Dennis became disabled from a car accident in 1982 resulting in brain injury. He moved to Mason City in 1995 where his sister, Marilyn VanDyke would become his caretaker. Dennis? primary physician, Dr. David Hanson and Dr. Mark Lassise, Mental Health Center, case manager, Bonnie Eustice, whom always had time to listen, helped to give him the most out of life. Dennis worked at Opportunity Village as grounds keeper and provided janitorial services at NIACC with the support of Ben Wright. He will be sadly missed by his co-workers, friends and family. He is survived by his brother, David of Tennessee, brother, Don of Mason City, sister, Marilyn of Mason City, brother, Darrell of Minnesota; children, Jessica Caruso of Wisconsin, Jameson Mackie of Minnesota; grandson, Nicholas Caruso of Wisconsin; nephews, Daniel, Darren & Peyton VanDyke. Dennis? parents, maternal grandparents, William and Betty Johnson, paternal grandparents, Florence and Lewis Mackie, uncle, Bud Mackie, stillborn son, Daniel Mackie and former wife, Debra Sather preceded him in death.
