Darold was an only child and was born in Owatonna, MN on June 28, 1931 to Charles J. and Lenora T. (Jensen) Blazek. He was baptized at the Aurora Lutheran Church, rural Owatonna. He lived on a farm 6 miles east of Owatonna for the first years of his life. At age 10, he moved with his parents to Mason City. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1949. He married Ruth Ann Blanchard on April 24, 1952 at Trinity Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Army for 2 years and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska during the Korean Conflict where he and Ruth began their married life. The couple was blessed with three children: Cheryl, Brian and Bradley. Darold purchased Blazek Electric on August 31, 1958 from his father. Using his good work ethic, he built a respected business as an electrical contractor. He always wanted to do a job right. If it was worth doing, it was worth doing right. The company grew and expanded and was incorporated in 1978. He never really retired, as he enjoyed working and having a part in the business. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, attended regularly and through the years served on many boards and gave of his time to many projects at the church. He served on Mason Citys Electrical Appeals Board and the board at KCMR Radio. He also enjoyed volunteering for the Community Kitchen by picking up food from the local grocery stores and delivering Meals on Wheels. The family has special memories of times enjoyed together during many summers in Minnesota. He enjoyed playing cards and he and Ruth did so quite often with many friends. He and Ruth enjoyed trips with friends or to visit friends. More recently he enjoyed his wildflowers and perennial garden. He always had a joke or a story to tell, thought the best of everyone and would always help a person in need. He enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren.
Darold is survived by his wife: Ruth; one daughter: Cheryl (David) Gildner of Belmond; sons Brian Blazek of Mason City and Bradley Blazek of Clear Lake; two grandchildren: Erin (Justin) Eggleston of Maplewood, MN and Ryan Gildner of St. Paul, MN and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
