MASON CITY ? Darlene L. Akers, 75 of Mason City died Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center ? North Iowa. A private family memorial service will be held Monday. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be from 4 ? 6 PM on Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church. Darlene Lois Stevens was born on June 28, 1929 in Iowa City. She was the daughter of Lewis and Margaret (Lester) Stevens. Darlene attended schools in Rowan, Dows and Clarion and later nurses training in Des Moines. She began her employment with Drs. Eaton and Young in Clarion. Darlene was united in marriage to Daryl Akers at the Little Brown Church in Nashua and they later moved to Mason City where she gained employment in the medical field. Retirement came in 1991 from Radiology of North Iowa. Darlene found great satisfaction in volunteering at Mercy Medical Center in the Gift Shop. She enjoyed P.E.O. and her church circle, but her greatest love was watching her grandchildren grow and develop. Darlene was an active member of First United Methodist Church. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Daryl of Mason City; son Mark and daughter-in-law Sue, grandchildren, Jennifer and Steven all of Clear Lake as well as many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
