MASON CITY Danny Lee Vasquez, 60, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2011, at his home. A Celebration of Quezs Life will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2011, at the acreage located at 2823 North Carolina, Mason City, Iowa, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Please bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating, along with your memories for sharing. As per Quezs request, casual dress, and please bring a food item to be donated to the local food bank. Memorials may be directed to the Dan L. Vasquez Memorial Fund, in care of Candy Pitkin, 913 12th Avenue South, Clear Lake, Iowa 50428.

Dan was born on October 12, 1950, in Mason City, Iowa. He was the only child of Leo Vazquez and Norma Jean Frazier. He attended Mason City Schools. Quez was a very hard worker and had a wide variety of employment interests over the years. He worked for Bratruds Yamaha, Mannys Sinclair, Vics Pizza, Lehigh Cement Co., and especially enjoyed being a bouncer at Warehouse 10 and Lus Lounge. He was also employed by the D.O.T. for 21 years, until a June 10, 2005 accident disabled him, forcing him to retire. Quez had a true passion for life he loved the roar of an engine, squeal of tires, the smell of burnt rubberhe enjoyed riding his Harley with his many friends. Dan always loved riding through the Black Hills of South Dakota during Sturgis Rally with all his buddies. This big kid also enjoyed his hot rods and classic cars that he had redone over the years. Dan and Candy attended many car shows and looked forward to the Car Craft Summer Cruise in St. Paul every year. Dan also had a compassionate and sensitive side for animals, his friends, and his family. His dynamic smile and infectious laugh will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dan is survived by her wife, Candy Pitkin; mother-in-law, Marilyn Jo Meyer of Clear Lake; brother-in-laws, Tim Meyer of Clear Lake, Brad (Nancy) Meyer of Apple Valley, MN; niece, Kathryn Meyer of Apple Valley, MN, and was PAPA to many four-footed fuzz balls; adopted brothers, Rick Klunder of Mason City, Kenny Pals of Thornton, and Vance (Kim) Wendel of Clear Lake; adopted grandchildren, Nicole, Madi and Sean Wendel fo Clear Lake, IA; adopted sister, Dawn (Steve) Havey of Clear Lake; aunts, Josie Ruiz of Mason City, Anna Vasquez of Ft. Worth, TX, and Lupe Reyes of California; uncle, Rufus (Alice) Vasquez of Mason City. He is also survived by many cousins, as well as many special friends.
