Charlotte A. Bartleson was born October 1, 1924, in Forest City, IA, the daughter of Bernhardt and Agnes (Madsen) Bartleson. After graduating from high school, she worked at various jobs. During this time she moved to Mason City. In 1952, she and Joseph A. Jenson had a daughter, Ellen. Charlotte worked in several restaurants in Mason City before going to work at the Suzie Q Caf. When the owners put the restaurant up for sale, Charlotte did what she later called took the plunge and bought the Suzie Q.
For over 20 years, Charlotte and the Suzie Q spent, in her words, the best years of her life. On January 13, 1968, Charlotte married Ralph Klatt in Mason City. Ralph retired in 1980, and helped Charlotte at the Suzie Q Restaurant for the next four years, before she sold the business and retired in 1984. She enjoyed traveling, visiting family members, crossword puzzles, reading mystery novels and the Readers Digest. She has lived with her daughter for the last twelve years, and in 2006 they were adopted by a cat, which put much laughter in Charlottes life.
Charlotte is survived by her children: Ralph Douglas Klatt and wife Carol of Paducah, KY, David L. Klatt of Mason City and his fiance Sherlyn Horgen of St. Ansgar, IA, Ellen J. Mix of Mason City; one granddaughter: Mary-Kathleen Klatt of Milwaukee, WI..
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ralph, and her brothers and sisters.
