Charles E. “Chuck” Elbert, 84, of Mason City, died Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. Neil Manternach, Epiphany Parish officiating. Interment will be in Buffalo Township Cemetery, rural Titonka, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour before services Saturday at Major Erickson Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Charles Elbert Memorial Fund. Chuck was born September 15, 1929 in Whittemore, Iowa the son of Laurence and Johanna (Buck) Elbert. He attended St. Cecelia Catholic High School in Algona. Chuck served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954. He continued to serve in the National Guard for 17 more years. Chuck married Sharon Ringsdorf July 18, 1955 in St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church, Algona. Chuck worked for Winnebago Industries, Forest City, for 19 years. He retired in 1992. A few of his interests included gardening, cards, pool, and hunting and fishing with his family. Chuck is survived by his wife, Sharon of Mason City; 3 sons, Donald (Bobbi) Elbert of Ventura, David Elbert of Mason City and Dale Elbert; 1 daughter, Susan Squier of Thompson; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 1 brother, John Elbert of Algona; 2 sisters, Carmilla Klein of Iowa Falls and Rosella Ryg of Algona; step-father, Jack Porter; 2 sisters-in-law, Lynette Elbert of Algona and Ella Elbert of Algona. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Rudy, Anthony, Robert, and Henry; 1 sister, Luella Wagner; daughter, Debra; son, Douglas; infant son, Darwin; grandson, Kodi; mother-in-law, Lillian Porter.
