Carol L. Moore, 87, of 1112 6th St. SE, died Tuesday (October 21, 2003) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. James M. Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania and continue one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be given to the Carol L. Moore Memorial Fund. Carol was born May 4, 1916 in Racine, Wisconsin the daughter of Dr. Frederik C. and H. Margaret (Steffensen) Christensen. She graduated from Park High School in Racine, Wisconsin and received her BM Ed. degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 1938 with a major in cello. For two years she taught all the music in the schools in Ridge Farm, Illinois where she met Bill Moore. Carol then taught music in the Jr. High School she had attended in Racine, Wis. Carol married William H. Moore August 16, 1941 at Holy Communion Church in Racine. They lived in Mason City for one year before Bill was called to serve in the Army Air Force during WWII. She went with him when she could, getting office jobs or clerking in stores. After the war they returned to Mason City. Carol was active in Trinity Lutheran Church, directing the junior choir, taught Sunday school, belonged to Circles and helped in the church office. She also held part time jobs outside the church. Carol then devoted her time to raising her children, Nancy and David. When they were in Jr. High and High School, she took some education courses at UNI and then taught first graders at Jefferson and Hoover Elementary Schools. Carol and Bill retired in 1979 and enjoyed traveling, attended Elderhostel courses and visiting family. She played cello in the Northwestern Symphony, the Racine Symphony, the Wartburg Symphony and the North Iowa Symphony. Carol was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, church circle, PEO chapter KX, Veleda Study Club, Matinee Musical and volunteered at the food bank. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needlework, her family, traveling and reading. She is survived by her husband; William H. Moore of Mason City, daughter; Nancy Stephenson and husband Ronald of Kansas City, MO, son; David W. Moore and wife Lisa of Sitka, AK, granddaughters; Amy Christine and Rachel Ellen, sisters; Myrtle Snarr of Georgetown, IN, June Grinney and husband Leo of Tucson, AZ. Carol was preceded in death by her parents and a child in infancy, Sharon Carol.
