Carl O. Gibbs III

Carl O. Gibbs III, 33 of Mason City passed away Wednesday morning at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, in Iowa City following a lengthly illness. Funeral services for Carl will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. Ron Stein of First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Carl O. Gibbs III memorial fund. Visitation for Carl will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home. Carl was born July 16, 1969 in Des Moines the son of Carl Gibbs II and June (Foss) Gibbs and moved to Mason City at a young age. He graduated from Mason City High School and went on to attend N.I.A.C.C. Carl worked for several factories in the Mason City area. He enjoyed fishing and the Chicago Bears. Those left to cherish his memory are: Parents: Carl and June Gibbs of Mason City Brother: Christopher Gibbs of Mason City Sisters: Helen Holtan and husband Paul and their children Andrew, Nicolas and Miranda of Savage, Minnesota Carla Dempsey and husband Terry and their children, Heidi, Erin, Joshua and Megan of Mason City Paternal Grandmother: Mrs. Hulda Ringis of Mason City Fiancée and soul mate: Tammy Koester of Des Moines And numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. Carl was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, John Ringis and maternal grandparents, Clarence and Alice Foss.
