Carl A. Tatone, “89”, of Mason City, IA, died Thursday, March 19, 2015, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 23, 2015, at Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 North Adams, with Rev. Rod Allers officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue at the church one hour prior to the service. A Knights of Columbus Rosary Service will begin at 4:30 PM followed by a Scriptural Wake Service. Interment will take place in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Marine Corps of North Iowa. Carl's family requests that memorials be directed to the Carl A. Tatone Memorial Fund in care of the family. Carl A. Tatone was born April 7, 1926, in Mason City, son of Alex and Mary (Di Angelo) Tatone. He grew up in Mason City and attended Holy Family School and Mason City High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. While serving in the South Pacific, he was wounded in Okinawa, Japan. After he returned home he attended The Electronic Institute of Omaha. On June 9, 1951, he was united in marriage to Joan (Michels) Tatone at Sacred Heart Church in Osage, IA. Carl retired from the Lehigh Portland Cement Co. in 1985 after 34 years of employment. Carl was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and a lifetime member of the VFW. He was also a lifetime member of North Iowa Chapter of the Marine Corps League and of the 1st Marine Division Association. He was a commissioner on the board of the Cerro Gordo County of Veterans Affairs, a board member of the Lehigh Employees Credit Union for 28 years and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and Holy Family Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing, traveling, reading and gardening. Carl is survived by his wife of 63 years: Joan (Michels) Tatone of Mason City, IA, and six children: Angela (Bob) Braathen, Mitchellville, IA, and their children: David (Becky) Underwood; Becky Fisher; Jason (Amy) Underwood; Chad (Kim) Underwood; and Nick (Traci) Underwood. Michael (Leanne) Tatone, Colorado Springs, CO, and their children: Alecia (Sunny) Hothan; Tom (Lisa) Tatone; and Julia (Derrick) Franck. Marc (Kathy) Tatone, Golden Valley, MN and their children: Michael Tatone and Matthew Tatone. Carla (Dan) Burke, Mason City, IA and their children: Katie (Wes) Miller; Kelli Burke (deceased), and Joe (Marina) Burke. Tony (Jane) Tatone, Sioux Falls, SD, and their children: Jennifer (Joe) Sauser; Alex (Kelsey) Tatone and Maggie (Mike) Harris. Ted (Lisa) Tatone, Chattanooga, TN, and their children: Daniel Tatone and Shannon Tatone. He is also survived by 32 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; and one sister: Marjorie Golbuff of Mason City, IA as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers: Jacob Magnani, Tony Magnani and Michael Tatone; three sisters: Sarah O’Brien, Genevieve Malfero and Ella Berry; and one granddaughter: Kelli Burke.

Cemetery:
Interment will take place in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Carl's family requests that memorials be directed to the Carl A. Tatone Memorial Fund in care of the family.
