Bev was born March 22, 1928 in Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of Alfred and Lura (Bliss) Lane. She was the fifth child and first girl, adored by her family. From an early age Bev was an accomplished pianist. Bev graduated with High Honors from Austin High School, Austin, Minnesota in 1946 then went on to graduate with an Associate in Arts Degree from Austin Junior College in 1948. Bev married her high school sweetheart, Clayton Schulz, August 6, 1949 in Austin. They moved to Mason City after their marriage. While they lived in Waterloo from 1956 to 1961 for Clayt’s work, Mason City was their home moving back in 1961 to raise their family. Bev worked part time at Park Clinic once the younger children were in school. The focus of her love and work was on creating a loving home. One of the things her children remember is that the house was filled with music, laughter and the smell of her fabulous cooking. Bev extended that love to her grandchildren. Bev was known as the “cookie grandma” baking each grandchild a box of homemade cookies each birthday. In addition to music, bridge was one of Bev’s favorite past times. She played both in a woman’s league as well as in several couples’ groups, winning several Mason City tournaments. She taught her children how to play pinochle, 500 and hearts which sharpened their problem solving and math skills. Education was important to Bev and she instilled a love of learning in each of her children all of whom earned college degrees. A woman of strong faith, Bev was known for being the “Prayer Warrior”. She was always the first call when family members had concerns. She could sense when people needed support and was not afraid to pause in the moment and offer up comfort through prayer often creating them from scriptures which she had committed to memory.

Bev was part of PEO Chapter KX and a past President. She was also active in Women’s Club. She is a member of First United Methodist Church. Bev was also a committed friend until her move to Heritage Care Center.

Bev is survived by her children; Susan L. Schulz of Decorah, Iowa, Steven L. Schulz (Marcia) of Mason City, Sally L. Hildebrant (Clay) of Alpharetta, Georgia and Scott L. Schulz (Michele) of Wyoming, Minnesota; grandchildren, Matthew Anders, Jonathan Schulz, Mark Schulz, Vittoria Schulz, Kara Schulz, Curtis Hildebrant, Adam Hildebrant, Carly Hildebrant, Thomas Schulz, Jeffrey Schulz, and James Schulz;

Bev was preceded in death by her husband Clayt, her parents and her four brothers.
