Betty M. (Thornbury) Chesnut

November 18, 1924 — December 17, 2008

MASON CITY: Betty M. (Thornbury) Chesnut, age 84, died Wednesday, December 17th at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit with her loved ones by her side. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 20th at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 First ST. N.E., Mason City with Pastor Patty Aurand officating. A visitation will be held hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the First Congregational United Church of Christ or the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit, 232 2nd Street S.E., Mason City, Iowa.
Betty was born November 18, 1924 in Britt, Iowa the daughter of Anon B. and Mabel (Meleney) Thornbury.
Betty spent most of her life dedicated to caring for her two sons and her husband, Lowell and later cared for two young girls in her home. Later in life, Betty was employed at the Pharmacy in Mercy Medical Center for 15 years until her retirement. In her early family years Betty and her sisters were known for their special talents in tap dancing and baton twirling. Betty was also a Band Majorette at Clear Lake High School her junior year.
Betty is survived by her husband of 61 years, James Lowell, her sons Steven and Douglas, their wives Joy and Dana, respectively, and 4 grandchildren who loved her dearly, Cami, Kyle, Jared and Chad.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anon and Mabel Thornbury, sisters Joan and Vernie Smith, brothers Maynard and Donnie and a grandson Colin Christopher, stillborn.
