Betty K. Bernhardt

MASON CITY: Betty K. Bernhardt, 93, of Mason City, died Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at the Heritage Care Center. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware with Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating. Per Betty’s request, her body will be cremated. Inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa.

Betty was born March 29, 1922 in Mason City the daughter of Arthur and Bertha (Wilson) Barlow. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1940. Betty married Fred “Fritz” Bernhardt February 9, 1946 in Mason City. She worked as a sales clerk for JC Penny, Buttrey’s and Younkers Department Stores for 42 ½ years. She retired in 1982. Betty was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and former member of LWMS. She enjoyed volunteering for Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank, RSVP, Hospice of North Iowa and various projects at the church. Betty wanted to give special thanks to all of her family and friends who made it possible for her to live in her home all these years, especially Sharon and Larry Madson.

Betty is survived by her sister, Sharon Taylor of Mason City; brother, Richard (Louise) Barlow of Belpre, Ohio; brother-in-law, Douglas Bailey of Des Moines; sister-in-law, Carol Barlow of Mason City; many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fred; brothers, Edward, Jack, Jerry, Kenneth & Vernon Moon; sisters, Mary and Ruth.
